Notes: If Namely needs to back file a missing original return, or file an amended return, completion of MN SIT Agent authorization is required.
Based on your company's details, your Namely Payroll setup may include several Minnesota Tax Codes. Minnesota Workforce Enhancement Fund uses the same ID as Minnesota Unemployment tax.
REGISTERING FOR UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE
New employers in Minnesota will need to register with Unemployment Insurance Minnesota.
Once registered, you will receive an Unemployment Account Number (UI) (called “MN Employer Account Number”) and Unemployment Rate (%) which you will need to enter into Namely Payroll under Company > Tax screen (UI tax).
If you've run payroll for Minnesota in the past, you can find your MN Employer Account Number on the Determination of Tax Rate notice that you received from Unemployment Insurance Minnesota.

TIP:
Refer here to view current rates, including information on assessments . The Employer Interest Assessment Surcharge rate is an extension of the MN-SUI tax. This rate is hardcoded in Namely and cannot be changed. When entering your ID for this tax, please note that your ID for this tax should match your MN-SUI ID number.
REGISTERING FOR INCOME TAX WITHHOLDING
New employers in MN will need to register with Minnesota Revenue. Start the process by clicking on "Registering Your Business" and follow the prompts.
Once registered, you will receive a Withholding Tax Account Number (WH) (called “MN Tax ID”) which you will need to enter into Namely Payroll under Company > Tax screen (WH tax).
If you've run payroll in Minnesota in the past, you can find your MN Tax ID number on notices received from the Minnesota Revenue. You can also log into your Minnesota Revenue E-Services account to find your number.

POWER OF ATTORNEY FORMS
Please note, Namely does not require a Power of Attorney for this state at this time. It is not required to file or remit payments on your behalf. If one is needed to resolve a tax matter, the tax notice team will request one from you at that time.
If a Power of Attorney is requested from you, you should email completed copies of the forms namelyPOA@Namely.com with the CID in the subject line for processing. We will update our system and maintain a copy of each form for record-keeping purposes

STATE INCOME WITHHOLDING FORMS
Namely uploads Federal and State W-4 documents to your HRIS site for use during Onboarding, or if you need to send W-4s to employees who need to make withholding adjustments.
TIP:
The most up to date W-4 documents can be found in the Namely section of the Document dropdown menu in Onboarding and Manage eSignature.

Comments: Every new worker must provide the employer with a signed withholding certificate indicating the number of withholding allowances claimed. Effective Jan. 1, 2020, new employees and current employees changing their state withholding must fill out Form W-4MN, Minnesota Employee Withholding Allowance/Exemption Certificate.
If an employee has not filled out Form W-4MN, a federal Form W-4 from 2019 or earlier may be used to calculate state withholding.
Without a Form W-4MN, or a federal Form W-4 from 2019 or earlier, employers should withhold on the basis of single with no allowances.
